Crowns and Bridges are a fixed Prosthetic tooth which is cemented by the dentist directly onto an existing tooth or over an implant. Commonly known as ‘cap’- a crown is often used to completely cover a damaged tooth or an implant.
Some of the situations where you may need a crown include:
- To replace a large filling where there is not enough tooth structure remaining
- To repair a broken tooth
- To cover a dental implant
- To cover a misshapen or discoloured tooth
- To attach to a Bridge
- To cover a tooth which has had Root Canal Treatment
Gaps that are left will cause the remaining teeth to move which can result in a compromised bite, gum disease and jaw (TMJ) problems. Bridges are usually used when one or more teeth are missing. They will fill the space where the teeth are missing and are cemented to your natural teeth or implants. The benefits of crowns and bridges are the strength they provide to a damaged tooth, and they can greatly improve a tooth’s appearance, alignment and bite.
